Discover the difference the right care can make

These are some of the common questions patient often ask themselves when they are looking for help. It is definitely confusing but don’t worry, we’ve got you sorted! At Square One we offer a wide variety of treatment options from chiropractic adjustments to dry needling to neuromuscular re-education. All your pain needs will be met!

Information for First Time Patients

Square One Active Recovery is different from other healthcare providers in Singapore for three main reasons:

1) We focus on movements and exercises. 90-95% of our treatment is exercise or movement-based. Our exercises are unique to each patient’s presentation and they change from week to week depending on how you respond. As such, there are no exercise sheets or protocol we follow.

It is also common for our patients to be sore for the first 3-4 weeks due to the exercises we prescribed. However, over 80% of our patients leave our care within four to seven visits. This is results most clinics in Singapore cannot match.

2) We focused on goals rather than what you feel. This means we pegged the success of your treatment to something you desire. This can be return to sports (back to playing tennis), being able to sit for longer periods with less soreness, being able to serve a faster tennis surf, etc.

3) We are strictly evidence-based. So there’s no “it might work because it worked for most of our patients” and the likes. Everything we do our practice is based on current clinical guidelines OR supported by a high quality randomised control trial. So we don’t do things like stretching, foam rolling because there is no good research to support that they have any long term positive effects.

Most likely, not.

90-95% of what we do is exercise or movement-based. In some cases, we utilise manual therapy such as chiropractic adjustments or dry needling as adjunct therapy.

Chiropractic is a profession concerned with the diagnosis, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.

Chiropractic is not synonymous with chiropractic adjustments (spinal manipulation). Chiropractors utilise an array of modalities and techniques from  neuromuscular re-education and therapeutic exercises to dry needling and IASTM.

A branch of Chiropractic focused on providing care in the conservative management, rehabilitation and performance optimisation of the musculoskeletal system for athletes.

Sports chiropractors help with injury management and sports performance (i.e. how to run faster).

A chiropractic adjustment, also referred to as spinal manipulation, is the manoeuvre performed by chiropractors where a controlled, quick (high velocity) impulse is applied to a joint through a manual thrust. Each adjustment is different and catered to meet the specific needs of each patient. It rarely causes discomfort and patients often report positive changes in symptoms immediately after treatment.

Most patients experience an improvement in their symptoms within 1-2 visits. Depending on the severity and the chronicity of the complaint, recovery typically takes between 4-6 weeks for an acute complaint and up to 16 weeks for chronic conditions.

Research, research, research!

We strongly recommend you to take the time required to find out how the chiropractor would manage similar complaints and to confirm that their practices are coherent with current research and health guidelines. When in doubt, always ask for academic references.

Most of the time, no.

For non-traumatic musculoskeletal conditions, an X-ray is usually not required. We follow radiographic guidelines and do not take unnecessary, routine X-ray of our patients. Your health is paramount to us!

Yes! Chiropractic is recognised as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies for management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. While Chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no healthcare treatment is completely free from potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, is very small.

Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) treat a variety of neuromusculoskeletal conditions, including injuries to the muscle, ligaments, and joints of the body. We are best known for our expertise in managing patients with back pain and neck pain.

The ‘popping’ sound is the release of a gas bubble, which occurs due to the sudden change in pressure within the joint capsule during an adjustment. It is also known as the cavitation phenomenon.

No. While we do accept referrals from doctors and other healthcare providers, no referral letter is needed to book an appointment.

No. We work with your fitness capacity and pain tolerance to develop a treatment plan that works best for you. However, it will be in your best interest to do any home exercises as prescribed to optimise your care.

More often than not, yes. We strongly advocate for our patients to keep active (and exercise) within their fitness capacity and pain tolerance. If in doubt, seek professional advice from your preferred healthcare provider.

While we do charge more per session, we provide higher quality care and offer more value than other chiropractors in Singapore.

  • Most of our patients typically spend 30-45 minutes with our chiropractors. At a discount chiropractic clinic, you would spend no more than 10 minutes with a chiropractor for $75-$120.

In real terms, you would be paying $225 with a discount chiropractor to receive quality care similar to what we offer. Furthermore, you would be locked in for packages in excess of 80 sessions in order the “enjoy” the discounted rate.

  • Our fees include all the modalities you may need for full recovery. This means you do not incur extra fees for the physiotherapy-associated treatments we perform (such as Dry Needling and Active Release Technique, Smart Tools Therapy, etc).

At other chiropractic clinics, these services are offered as physiotherapy or massage treatments. This means you will be paying anything between $195 to $225 in order to receive both chiropractic and physiotherapy-associated treatments!

We are the only chiropractic clinic in Singapore to offer a 100% Money Back Guarantee program. We promise you will see an improvement in your symptoms OR an improvement in your strength, range of motion, or function. If not, we will give you your money back!

To be eligible for a full refund, you will need to:

  • Make an appointment with us directly without going through any third-party sites or services
  • Attend at least 3 sessions (first consultation inclusive) over a 2-week period
  • Submit your daily exercise and symptoms log over the 2-week period to us
  • All refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of your initial visit with us
  • Please note that refunds will NOT be approved if you are non-compliant with our exercise prescription

“I didn't know how much I could improve until I started seeing a chiropractor. Since I've been in chiropractic, I've improved by leaps and bounds both mentally and physically."
