What is Jesse Cai's credentials?
After dropping out of veterinary and law school, Jesse joined the chiropractic programme at Murdoch University and graduated in 2018. During his time in Australia, he worked with semi-professional and professional athletes. He was the Head Sport Trainer for Forrestfield Football Club and managed the injuries and rehabilitation for over 20 athletes.
Despite his busy schedule as a chiropractor, Jesse is committed to providing the best care possible for his clients. He is currently pursuing further studies in psychology, his third degree, at James Cook University. Jesse truly embraces a holistic approach to health. His training and expertise across chiropractic and psychology allows him to help his clients achieve physical, mental, and social well-being.
Jesse’s work in pain management and health coaching over the years has not gone unnoticed. In 2023, Jesse was invited to contribute a chapter to Solution Focused Coaching in Asia (Routledge, Taylor & Francis group). He is the only published chiropractor in Singapore.
In 2024, Jesse will begin his Master of Science in Applied Gerontology at Nanyang Technological University.
Is Jesse Cai a chiropractor since you do not offer adjustments?
Yes, Jesse trained five years to become a chiropractor and is a qualified chiropractor. Contrary to what most people believe, chiropractic training is not limited to spinal adjustments. It includes different modalities such as dry needling, IASTM, ultrasound, nutrient counselling, and of course exercise therapy.
Since 2018, we have stopped all passive modalities (i.e., treatments that require other people to perform you) because it conflicts with our goal of making our own services redudant to you. Passive treatments such as chiropractic adjustments do often provide immediate relief. However, the results are often temporary and will require you to keep coming back.
Our exercise and lifestyle coaching approach means our clients can ownself help ownself, and do not need a lifetime of endless treatments.
Is Jesse Cai a physiotherapist?
No, Jesse is not trained as a physiotherapist and currently has no intention of training to become one. The training of a physiotherapist is four years and covers not only musculoskeletal but also neurological and cardiorespiratory conditions. The training of a chiropractor is five years that only focus on musculoskeletal conditions, specifically those of the spine.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a profession concerned with the diagnosis, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health.
True chiropractic care is about getting our patients pain and injury free without the use of painkillers or surgery.
What is an adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment, also referred to as spinal manipulation, is the manoeuvre performed by chiropractors where a controlled, quick (high velocity) impulse is applied to a joint through a manual thrust. While patients often report positive changes in symptoms immediately after treatment, the relief is often short term.
Since 2018 Square One no longer offers chiropractic adjustment as a core treatment. More details in the link above.
Is chiropractic treatment safe?
Yes! Chiropractic is recognised as one of the safest, non-invasive therapies for management of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. We help you management your pain without the use of pain killers or surgery.
While Chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no healthcare treatment is completely free from potential adverse effects. The risks associated with chiropractic, however, is very small.
Do I need a referral from a Doctor?
No. While we do accept referrals from doctors and other healthcare providers, no referral letter is needed to book an appointment.
Do I have to be an athlete to have an appointment with you?
No. We work with your fitness capacity and pain tolerance to develop a treatment plan that works best for you. However, it will be in your best interest to do any home exercises as prescribed to optimise your care.
What treatment does Square One offer?
We provide patient education, and use shared decision making, therapeutic alliance, patient empowerment, reassurance, patient-centered communication, patient-centered practice to increase self-efficacy and activity.
We also provide therapeutic (patient-centred) exercises within an evidence-based biopsychosocial model of health and illness to help people achieve pain-free living.
Your First Chiropractic Visit
Where is Square One?
Our address is 32A Circular Road, Boat Quay, Singapore 049388.
If you are coming by MRT, alight at Raffles Place or Clarke Quay station.
Do I require X-Rays?
Most of the time, no.
For non-traumatic musculoskeletal conditions, an X-ray is usually not required. We follow radiographic guidelines and do not take unnecessary, routine X-ray of our patients. Your health is paramount to us!
What is the biomechanical assessment?
The biomechanical assessment is recommended for people with chronic pain or injury (more than 3 months) or have had past treatments with little to no success. It is a quantitative review (i.e., numerical data) of your current musculoskeletal health. It is usually performed before our clients start their recovery with us so we can have a baseline measure of their muscles and joints condition. This allows us to evaluate your progress later in your recovery to determine if you are on the right track.
The biomechanical assessment also provide information that are not visually observable. This information is then used to make sense of your current condition and determine what needs to occur for you to achieve a full recovery.
While it is not commonly seen in chronic pain management in Singapore, it is routinely used in professional sports perfomance overseas as a quantitative outcome measure. It is true our clients are not professional athletes. However, our clients have muscles and joints as athletes do. The purpose of the assessment is not to make you a professional athlete but to provide insights to the state of your muscles and joints.
Having said that, we do respect your decision if you decide to opt out of the biomechanical assessment.
How long before chiropractic treatment works?
Most of our clients start to notice a change by the second and third visit. Full recovery will depend on the condition, severity of the symptoms, as well as the compliance to our recovery programme.
What is the recommended chiropractic adjustment frequency?
The recommended chiropractic adjustment frequency for most chiropractic clinics in Singapore is 3 times per week for a month or more.
Can I exercise after treatment?
Yes. We strongly advocate for our patients to keep active (and exercise) within their fitness capacity and pain tolerance.
In fact, 100% of our patients receive an exercise program at the end of their first visit.
If in doubt, seek professional advice from your preferred healthcare provider.
Will you be cracking my spine or joints?
No, we do not offer short-term pain solutions at our practice. Chiropractic adjustments can provide relief but will require you to keep coming back for more treatments. It is a reliance and dependency-based treatment.
Our main objective at Square One Active Recovery is to make our own services redundant to our clients. We achieve this through exercises and helping our clients making the appropriate lifestyle change. By helping our clients help themselves become healthier, they no longer need our services! This is the only way to truly get long-term results.
Do you offer 'back out of alignment' treatment?
No. Alignment and your spine being out of alignment is an urban myth. You can read more about it at our blog post on text neck and anterior pelvic tilt.
Many Singapore chiropractors use alignment to upsell chiropractic sessions. There is no research to show that there are benefits to improving alignment and posture.
Furthermore, chiropractic adjustments are simply not enough to change your alignment. To understand why, check out our blog post on chiropractic adjustments.
Why is it so difficult to get an appointment with Jesse Cai?
Jesse Cai sees clients on Mon, Tue, Thu, and Sat. The remaining time is spent researching and planning for complex cases. Jesse is also currently pursuing his Masters of Applied Science in Gerontology at NTU and psychology at James Cook University.
Jesse also sings with Singapore Symphony Chorus as a tenor.

✅ Understand why you are experiencing chronic pain
✅ Leave nothing to guess work
Watch this video to see the assessment in action.
Is chiropractic covered by insurance in Singapore?
You can claim for treatments under “chiropractic” depending on your insurance plans and policies covered. For more information, check out our article on insurance for chiropractic cover in Singapore.
Why should I pay so much for your treatment?
The fees we charge are comparable to current market rates. Some clinics offer comparable fees with longer appointment times. However, the time you spend with the chiropractor is often only a short part of the appointment.
Our goal of making our own services redudant to our clients means the average spend of our clients are a third to half of other clinics. Because our clients can ownself help ownself, they often do not need to continue coming once they have achieved their recovery goals. This is a stark contrast from other chiropractors where you are often expected to keep coming for maintenance treatments or your pain will come back.
“I didn't know how much I could improve until I started seeing a chiropractor. Since I've been in chiropractic, I've improved by leaps and bounds both mentally and physically."
–Michael Jordan
