I’ve been working with Michael Beere (my best friend/clinical partner in Perth) since last year to rollout an online program to help people achieve peak physical wellness. We really wanted to focus on health coaching and helping people drive effective behavioural change.
Who knew COVID-19 would happened – spread from China to Singapore and Australia – and now our project is on hiatus.
It’s not the end of the project though. Instead of complaining about the drop in business – for good reason as more people are sensibly staying at home – plus the disruption to our business plan, I thought it would be a good time to use the COVID-19 situation to move parts of what I already do as a chiropractor online.
There is no other way to put it. This is an opportunity for allied health care providers to do things differently. Doesn’t matter if you are a chiropractor, physiotherapist, or osteopath, we can all use this time to do something differently (and better).

Telehealth works for knee pain and back pain!
Does online chiropractic care even work in the first place?
I was afraid you won’t going to ask.
Well, it is a strong solid yes.
From a cultural point of view, online treatment for neck pain or shoulder pain sounds really strange because, as a society, we are so used to manual treatment. When we have aches or soreness, we may see the TCM physician for acupuncture, tui na, cupping, or the likes. Maybe you will see a chiropractor for a chiropractic adjustment or a physiotherapist to have dry needling or IASTM done.
In all of this instances, there will be a therapist who performs a treatment to you.
So, I do understand that it’s hard to get our heads around why telehealth would work for muscle or joint pain/injury.
Here is a good news, research says digital care works.
A study published just this month (what great timing), looking at over 10,000 patients with either knee pain or back pain found that almost 80% of patients who completed an online care program experienced improvements in their pain.
Over half of these patients also reported more than 50% decrease in depression/anxiety experiences as well as an increase in work productivity.
Interestingly enough, patients who participated in more exercise workouts or online coaching sessions saw greater improvement in their symptoms.
