Will my back pain go away on its own? How can I get rid of back pain?

As a chiropractor, back pain is one of the conditions that I often see in my practice. While back pain may seem scary and sometimes warrant a trip to the hospital to find out what’s causing your symptoms, research tells us that you don’t always need to be worried.

According to a study published by Journal of Pain just last week, most low back pain cases that present at the hospital do achieve full recovery. The researchers found that it took patients:

• 67 days to recover from pain
• 37 days to recover from disability
• 37 days to return to previous work hours and duties
• 71 days to recover completely ??

However, a third of patients did not recover within 12 weeks.

Why are my aches not going away?

If you have back pain for over 12 weeks, your condition is considered to be chronic. On the surface, back soreness may seem impossible to treat because it just doesn’t seem to go away. However, this is not the case.

Most of your aches and soreness are probably not getting better because you have not been receiving evidence-based treatment.

According to Lancet, treatments such as massage, chiropractic adjustments, and even yoga are at best second-line treatment. That is, they are not the best treatment available out there.

If you have been doing your daily stretches but you aren’t getting much relief, it is because it doesn’t work.
